The Different Shower Valve Parts

The shower valve's components include the parts that control the water flow from the handheld spray, spout, or showerhead. These components also control the temperature of the shower. Modern shower valves can be installed correctly to allow for more comfortable bathing. They reduce temperature fluctuations and lower water pressure. Shower valves are usually mounted behind the wall. There are two types of shower valves, each with its parts. We will provide much information on these parts throughout this article.

Basics Of Shower

Every bathroom should have a shower. People used to love to bathe in waterfalls and then stand beneath them to get a shower. Modern technology has given us indoor plumbing, which allows for a luxurious and comfortable shower. You can adjust the temperature and spray water on yourself when you take a shower. Even though we use showers every day, many of us don't know what the parts of a shower are. The components of a shower include:

  • Showerhead

  • Shower Valve

  • Shower Pan

  • Water Supply

  • Pipe

  • Shower Strainer / Drain for Showers

  • Shower Cartridge

  • Shower Hose

  • Waste Outlet Pipe

  • Shut-Off Valves

The shower valve is an essential part of the system. We will discuss it in greater detail below.

Shower Valve

The shower valve controls the flow of water from the showerhead. There are many parts to the shower valve. The shower valve can also be used to adjust the water temperature. You will notice water rushing out of your bathtub spigot as it flows from the overhead when you take a full bath. The spout which directs water to the showerhead is lifted.

A cartridge regulates water flow and temperature in the shower. To move the shower handle forward or backward, you need to pull it. The shower strainer is used to drain the water. It is placed on your shower floor to act as a drain cover. Any object that can block the drain will be blocked. There are many options for designs and finishes.

There are two types of shower valves: thermostatic, which regulates temperature, and manual, which does not. Once you have decided on the kind of shower valve you would like, you can make more specific decisions, such as choosing the design. This article will explain the main parts and features of each type of shower valve and help you decide which one is right for you, your family, your budget, and your time.

Shower Valve parts according to Valve Types

Parts of the shower valve can vary depending on the type.

Thermostatic shower valve

A thermostatic valve can ensure that your shower water temperature is maintained. This means that if you set a temperature for the shower, the temperature will not change as you use it. You may have noticed in showers that don't have thermostatic shower valves that your shower can suddenly shock you with cold water if another person uses the bathroom or switches on the faucet. A thermostatic shower valve will prevent this from happening.

It's useful to ensure a pleasant experience in the shower, but especially useful if there are children.

These shower valves typically have two handles.

  • The handle controls the water flow

  • The temperature control handle.

This will allow you to keep the temperature set at the same place all the time. After that, you can use the on/off control to adjust the flow volume. Users will save time and frustration when setting the temperature for each shower.

There are many styles of thermostatic shower valves to fit the needs of different homes. These include:

Twin Thermostatic shower valve

This thermostatic shower valve has two controls:

  • One that regulates temperature

  • One controls the flow

This valve can be used to control one shower. This valve could also be used to control an overhead shower.

Twin Thermostatic shower valve with diverter

This valve controls both an overhead and handheld showerhead in a double shower. This valve does not allow water to flow simultaneously from the two heads. Instead, you will need to choose which one you want.

This valve has two handles:

  • You can turn the shower on and off with one handle or choose from several showerheads.

  • The other handle can be used to adjust the water temperature.

Triple Thermostatic shower valve

This type of valve allows two showers to run simultaneously if you have a double-sized shower. These showers typically include a fixed overhead head and a handheld wand.

Each valve has three handles

  • The temperature of one shower will control the other so that both showers are equally hot and steady.

  • You can control the water flow, turn on the showers and isolate each shower to suit your needs.

Triple Thermostatic shower valve with diverter

This valve can control three separate shower outlets. This would typically include an overhead showerhead, handheld wand, and body jets mounted on the wall. Three handles are included in this type of shower valve:

  • One of the handles can control the temperature of each outlet.

  • You can control the water flow and operate the body jets independently to turn on or off.

  • Finally, the on/off switch is for the remaining outlets. The switch can also be used to switch between them.

Manual Shower Valve

Manual shower valves may be considered outdated in today's world, but they remain trendy due to their simplicity. This shower valve has only one handle that controls water temperature and pressure. It can also be used to turn on or off the shower.

These shower valves can be problematic for households with elderly or children, as they don't regulate and maintain the water temperature. This causes the water temperature in the shower to fluctuate between a faucet turning on and a flushing toilet.

This can cause an unpleasant surprise and can be dangerous for vulnerable people. The water can also burn easily. Families shouldn't use these types of shower valves with young children.

These valves don't have a preset temperature, so you will have to adjust the temperature to your preference every time you use the showerhead. This is more an inconvenience than a problem. However, if you need to get in and out of your shower quickly in the morning, it can be a time-consuming issue.

Manual shower valves are typically the most affordable type of shower valve, and they are also very cheap. This type of shower valve is fine if you don't plan to use it on small children or if your budget allows.
